Google Tools: More than a search engine

Google is the world’s most popular search engine… but it is so much more! Explore the wide variety of Google applications that teachers are quickly adding to their toolboxes. Teachers are using these tools to search the Internet more efficiently, stay current with curriculum content, and collaborate with colleagues. Explore iGoogle, Google Gadgets, Google Reader, Google Notebook, and more.

Create a Google account

 

Web History- whenever you are logged into your Google account, a search history will be kept of your Google searches
 

iGoogle- allows you to customize your Google search page with a theme and add gadgets

 

Google Notebook- A note taking program, collect your digital notes from websites in a user-friendly way.  A link is attached to the website to refer back quickly.

 

Google Reader

  • Subscribe to the sites, journals, blogs you like best and get notified when they have updated their site, take a look at the intro on the Google reader page

Google Earth - You have all heard of it, and explore classroom applications

 

Gmail - Google's email resource

 

Google Maps -a competitor to MapQuest, with many more features

 

Blogger -create your own web log (blog) or comment on others

 

Google page creator -create your own website with links, images and text among others
